Reviews for Kyue Japanese Restaurant
Review highlights
Based on 258 reviewsKyue Japanese Restaurant in Willoughby is widely praised for its authentic Japanese cuisine, particularly its standout katsu dishes and generous portion sizes. Diners frequently highlight the quality and tenderness of the meat, alongside well-balanced flavors reminiscent of traditional Japanese fare. The restaurant is also appreciated for its warm and attentive customer service, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. While the ambiance is cozy and family-friendly, some patrons note that the pricing is on the higher side, which is expected given the location. Parking remains a common challenge, but overall, Kyue is recognized as a reliable spot for those craving genuine Japanese flavors in a comfortable setting.
My partner and I went here for lunch on a Friday as we were craving some Japanese food. We ordered the shrimp tempura which was nicely fried and a very light batter and came with a very tasty yet warm dipping sauce. For our mains, we ordered the Ten Don Bowl and the Pork Tonkatsu. They were both very delicious and came with a huge serving of food making it very worth the money. The flavours in each main also complimented each other very well. The Ten Don Bowl came with approximately 11 tempuras and were all very tasty! The Pork Tonkatsu was pretty fatty, hence if you are ordering this, I would suggest maybe going for the black pork option instead. All in all, would definitely come back again if I am in the area :)
We (a party of three) had the pleasure of dining at Kyue for lunch on Apr 30th, 2025, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Not only was the food fantastic, but the customer service truly stood out. As we approached the entrance, one of the male staff members warmly greeted us and opened the door — such a simple gesture, but it made us feel instantly welcome and left a wonderful first impression. The food certainly lived up to the service. We ordered: 2 x Wagyu Gyu Katsu (+5 Wagyu 200g, cabbage salad, house-made sauce, rice) Katsu Deluxe Set (Premium pork loin 200g, vegetable tempura x2, karaage x1, mini California rolls x2, salad, miso soup, and rice) I absolutely loved the Wagyu Gyu Katsu — it was melt-in-your-mouth tender and packed with flavour. I highly recommend it! The portion was quite generous too; I had to ask for a takeaway box and ended up enjoying the rest for dinner — it was just as delicious the second time around. The Katsu Deluxe Set also offered great value, with a variety of tasty side dishes that beautifully complemented the crispy, juicy pork loin katsu. Their special tonkatsu sauce, paired with freshly ground sesame seeds, was an absolute highlight. A surprising standout for me was the cabbage salad, especially when dressed with their sesame dressing. I’m not usually big on vegetables, but I found myself going back for more — it paired perfectly with the Wagyu Katsu and was honestly addictive. We’ll definitely be back — Kyue is a hidden gem in Willoughby! A big shout-out to the serving staff as well, who were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
Missing Japan? ???????? Same. But I just found a spot in Sydney that seriously brought me back – even just for a moment They do Wagyu Katsu and Ontama Ten Don that taste just like Japan — no joke. The Wagyu Katsu is the real star — perfectly pink in the middle, super soft, juicy and tender. Paired with crunchy panko and a fresh cabbage salad drizzled with Japanese onion dressing… exactly how I remember it from Tokyo Then there’s the Ontama Ten Don — a big comforting bowl of rice topped with crispy tempura, soft-boiled egg, and a drizzle of that addictive tare sauce. I especially loved the veggie and mushroom tempura — crispy, light, and full of flavour I also got their assorted sashimi, and let me tell you — the tuna and salmon were so fresh, melt-in-your-mouth kind of fresh Don’t skip dessert either – their matcha tiramisu was the perfect ending. You can really taste the quality matcha powder on top – earthy, bold and not too sweet. Loved it! If you’re craving a quick trip to Japan without the plane ticket – this is it. ???????? Highly recommend for all the Japanese food lovers out there! #WagyuKatsu #TenDon #JapaneseFoodSydney #MatchaTiramisu #CravingJapan #AuthenticJapaneseFood #SydneyEats #HiddenGemsSydney #FoodieFinds #SashimiLovers #ComfortFoodCravings Follow @our_unpredictable_journey in Instagram Facebook TikTok and YouTube
Our first time at Kyue was a pleasant culinary experience. We enjoyed perfectly cooked Katsu and flavourful dumplings. The ambience was cosy with diners consisting largely of families. Service was good and quick. The price was more expensive than usual, but given the location, expected. The only downside was parking, which there is scant supply of; roadside parking only. I will definitely return to try the rest of their menu.
Nice spot that we’re glad we came by to try. It’s not everywhere you can find a place that does katsu of decent quality. We found the meat to be very nice and enjoyed our meal. The sashimi was alright too but we found the meat dishes to be a lot better. They also offer free refills of their cabbage but they got too busy and lost in translation once that they forgot about us and when we reminded the wait staff, she brought back a serviette but it was an honest mistake. Your table also includes some condiments to add to your meal too. Very cute spot that I would recommend trying. We did get lucky with quick seating.
Discovered this gem restaurant in a quiet corner of Willoughby. The food quality is beyond amazing. I went there with my picky kids and they all praise how delicious the foods were! I highly recommend their signature dishes that includes many varieties and top quality of meats. We had Pork and beef katsu and King prawns. I could say it’s the best Japanese food I have ever eaten in Sydney for the last decade. I will definitely go back again to taste others in the menu!
Overall it’s perfect! I visited mainly for the beef katsu, which was absolutely delicious and highly recommended. The only disappointment was the rice: the surface was a bit dry. As a Japanese, I had expected freshly cooked, fluffy rice to enjoy with such wonderful katsu. Rice is the heart of Japanese cuisine, and I hope the restaurant takes pride in it and never compromises on its quality.
